Engineered Hardwood Flooring

Installation

Engineered floors are resilient against moisture and are easy to install. They are the ideal alternative to traditional hardwood floors. Follow these steps to install engineered floors in your home.

Step 1:

Before you begin the installation, make sure that the subfloor is properly cleaned. Vacuum and sweep the floor to remove any dust and pay extra attention to nails and staples that are sticking out from your subfloor. Before continuing, make sure that the floor is completely dry.

Step 2:

Cover the subfloor with builder’s felt and run it in the same direction as the new flooring. Arrange the edges of the felt together and staple down each edge by using a hammer tacker every 4 – 5 feet. Ensure that the edges are trimmed so the felt is within 1 – 2 inches of the wall.

Step 3:

Prepare the planks for installation by opening up multiple boxes of flooring and arranging the planks to ensure the colors blend in evenly as you install the floors.

Step 4:

Run one row of the floors along the longest wall in the room. Install the planks with the tongue side against the wall and the groove side facing the room. Slide the planks right together and use a flooring stapler to drive staples through the groove at a 45-degree angle.

Step 5:

Install baseboards and thresholds to finish the flooring job. These will hide the seems where the floor meet the walls

Essential Care

  1. Clean the engineered floors by vacuuming or sweeping first and then using only a damp cloth. Do no use water or harsh cleaning agents as these will damage your floors.
  2. Clean your engineered floors by wiping in the same direction as the wood grain.
  3. Shield your engineered floors from sunlight by pulling the drapes or blinds or using UV ray protectors on your windows.
  4. Avoid walking in stiletto heels on the floor and sliding heavy furniture across the floors as they can cause unwanted scratches.
  5. Do not place electronics directly on the floor as the heat that is generated from these devices can damage your floors over time.

Make sure to trim your pet’s nails to avoid any scratches on the floors when they move around the house.
